Experience in the Tech Sector
My experience and background in technology includes VR, Gamification, Cryptocurrencies & Blockchain, Software Development and AI. I am an Elite Weekly writer for Equities.com (the largest platform for Emerging Growth Companies) specializing in Disruptive technologies. I also write for Stockhouse. Besides feature stories I also cover every tech conference to Vancouver. My recent consulting clients include Microsoft, IBM, 3M, PayPal and CT Corporation.

In the early 1990’s I was a Webmaster to many corporations in the early days of the Internet and operated an ISP from my downtown Vancouver offices using dial-up modems. I organized the installation of the first fiber optic lines to be introduced in downtown Vancouver using my engineers to guide TELUS technicians.

Governance
I have been on many Boards, some amateur in nature (Burnaby Arts Club) to strong well conceived Boards (BC Entrepreneur Association). I have been an executive on a ‘collective’ Board where it was formed for mutual interests (The Young Men’s Adventure Weekend) to Governing Boards. I have been on Policy Boards as well as numerous Advisory Boards (Miracle Place Society) so my breadth of experience can benefit CIRA.

Building and maintaining stakeholder confidence and trust
One of my biggest collaborations was between BC Entrepreneur Assoc. and Federal government (funders). While an independent board it was funded by the government as a policy Board and was accountable to stakeholders besides the government. As VP, Investor Relations for ARTContent Publishing I liaised between investors, founders and the BC Securities Commission. I was a consultant to 5 private companies in the last 3 years on investor/shareholder relations. I used social media to build brand awareness and confidence to 4 public companies in past 3 years.

Working at a strategic level
Besides providing operational planning for my own company, support strategic initiatives of Equifaira Advisors, I created operational and strategies for 3 pubcos and 5 private companies (in the past 3 years) mainly in social media and marketing. My first 2 books on Amazon, "How to Start a Successful Business - the First Time" and "Social Media Rockstar - Social Media Marketing for Entrepreneurs & Business" offer very strategic methods of planning.

Financial experience, including understanding and interpreting financial reports in relation to an organization’s strategic plan and financial outcomes
I have written 100+ business plans including financials, interpreted financial plans, determined EBITDA, cap rates, formulas for capital raise and other factors to determine viability of a company for me to help them raise pre-Initial Public Offering capital through accredited investors, Offering Memorandums/private placement and individual investors.

Working within legal and regulatory frameworks
While working with my clients, both private and public companies, I am directly responsible and accountable to the BC Securities Commission as well as other jurisdictions in Canada. I have a lawyer and CPA as partners. I have assisted clients in setting up legal structures in everything from sole proprietorships, charities, societies to public companies and international joint ventures.

Acting in an oversight capacity to management
With past clients, both public and private, I was tasked with increasing their knowledge of finance & operations. Planning & helping my clients to: better identify and address critical risks, help them understand how risks are interconnected and to recognize the potential for risks to compound if unfavourable events occur simultaneously.

Resolving conflicts
I am a Certified Business Counselor from Acadia University. As part of my 3 year program I had to illustrate my ability to mediate, negotiate and resolve any conflict that a business may run into either external or internal. I recently mediated 2 partners in a restaurant business who failed to draw up a partnership agreement prior to the start of the business and was worried their lifelong friendship may dissolve. I successfully identified roles and responsibilities & worked out an equitable result both were happy with.

Working with diverse groups
As the Program Manager at SUCCESS (2002-2012), BC's largest NGO, I worked with 37 different cultural and ethnic groups. I write business articles for the Canadian Immigrant newspaper and provide workshops for them to culturally diverse classes. I have produced and presented workshops for RBC on cultural diversity in the business community in Canada & how they can integrate rather than assimilate into Canadian society.

Why am I interested in being on CIRA’s Board?
I have been involved as a ‘webmaster’ since 1992. I’ve seen and adapted to change, fought for inclusion for everyone and believe that the Internet is the fundamentally biggest singularity since the invention of the computer. I am concerned about the efforts to censor the Internet and want to be in a position to face any idea that the internet can be anything but neutral without hindrance or control from governments.

What Contribution can I make?
I am an exceptionally strong networker who people trust and respect. I am the published author of 2 business oriented book on Amazon and believe strongly in working with stakeholders/members to make a better organization one person at a time. Forbes said I was one of the Top Small Business influencers on social media and London-based Richtopia has me on "The 200 Most Influential Philanthropists & Social Entrepreneurs in the World for 2017 ". I am a business analyst specializing in the financing of business startups. I also have an international following and reputation in the finance community as an Elite Weekly Writer for Equities.com the largest global financial platform for emerging growth companies and Stockhouse.com (Small cap stock investor community). I am a public speaker having given numerous keynotes on business (e.g. Canadian Council on Small Business - "Social Media & it's Effect on Canadian Business")

The Values I can bring to the CIRA Board
Passion, integrity and sincerity, strong entrepreneurial work ethic, values-based life, community-minded, love what I learn from diversity, conscientious, good-governance advocate, accountability, very candid and well informed, financially literate, respect for the Individual, stewardship of CIRA & the community, innovative, customer commitment, teamwork and empathy, commitment to sustainability, leadership: the courage to shape a better future.

I want to pay it forward to future generations and I know that what I have to offer CIRA will make a difference in the community. At a time when the economy is robust yet retail giants are closing, where gold is high but crypto currencies are leading the way, leadership is critical!

I offer my experience in strategic marketing, private equity financing, CEO level management and as a global social media influencer/communicator to support the wonderful team at CIRA in moving further in support of our members.

I am an advocate of good governance, respect for the individual and realize I would be following in the footsteps of strong leaders in the stewardship of CIRA and the community.

Innovation, customer commitment and leadership will help shape a better future. Please support me in my hope to be your next Director. I will be an energetic advocate and will engage with the public at every opportunity to promote CIRA.

Candidate resume:

Answers to mandatory questions:

1. Explain from your perspective what CIRA does and why it matters.

Canadian Internet Registration Authority and is the not-for-profit Canadian corporation responsible for operating Canada ’s CA Internet country code Top Level Domains.

The CIRA keeps us abreast of the shaping of the Internet in Canada with new laws, regulations, technologies, personal and professional uses and everything in between.

When the democractization of the internet was being discussed I was concerned over who would control it. When Dr. Binder suggested that the Canadian internet had to be "industry led, government pushed" I was committed.

2. Why do you want to be on CIRA’s board of directors?

I have been involved as a ‘webmaster’ since 1992. I’ve seen and adapted to change, fought for inclusion for everyone and believe that the Internet is the fundamentally biggest singularity since the invention of the computer. I am concerned about the efforts to censor the Internet and want to be in a position to face any idea that the internet can be anything but neutral without hindrance or control from governments.

3. What specific skills and experience do you have that makes you a qualified candidate for CIRA’s board of directors?

I am an exceptionally strong networker who people trust and respect. I am the published author of 2 business-oriented book on Amazon and believe strongly in working with stakeholders/members to make a better organization one person at a time. 4. What do you think are the top 3 challenges and opportunities facing CIRA in the next 3 to 5 years? What approach would you take to addressing these issues?

The internet is a connector and everyone should have access to it.
Currently, the top three challenges are:

Infrastructure
While we rely on the big providers to create it there is an imbalance between rural communities who don't have the access because 'there is no money in it' for the providers. We need to lobby the federal government to push for rural solutions like they are doing in the Yukon

Access
With the highest prices for internet in the world, we have a major disconnect between the poor who can't afford it and the rural consumer who can't afford it. I don't feel the prices should be that high and would argue that they can be reduced. Access as with infrastructure has to follow the will of the people. If indigenous communities and those in a rural setting want improved internet it can and must be accomplished. The Vancouver Community Network is one organization working to this end.

Literacy
Seniors, the poor, indigenous peoples and more suffer from illiteracy of digital technology mainly because they don't have the skills or equipment needed to keep abreast of changing technology. One society Gluu Technology Society provides digital coaching to change that inequality.
