Bring new life to old domains with TBR

If you’re like me, there was a time when an amazing idea popped into your head. This brilliant, completely original idea was going to change the world, it would make you millions, and it was imperative that you secure the perfect domain right away.

If you’re like me, there was a time when an amazing idea popped into your head. This brilliant, completely original idea was going to change the world, it would make you millions, and it was imperative that you secure the perfect domain right away.

You rushed to your favourite Registrar to secure the perfect .CA domain for your idea only to discover, sadly, it was already taken.

While your original idea may not have been as original as you thought, there is hope for that domain.

TBR, or To Be Released, is the weekly list of .CA domains that haven’t been renewed by their original owners. These once-beloved ideas are now orphaned domains ready to inspire entrepreneurial Canadians across the country.

Domains that enter into the TBR process are ones that have been left to lapse without renewal and are available through .CA Registrars. The weekly list of TBR domains is located on the CIRA website.

Remember, there may be others clamouring to scoop up the same domain you had in mind (though clearly with a much less amazing idea), so if a domain name you would like appears on the list, visit your favourite Registrar that offers TBR service and ask them to back-order it for you. If you are successful in reserving your TBR domain, you will receive a notification after the one-hour TBR window.

TBR is a great opportunity to get a head start on grabbing the perfect domain for your idea before it becomes available on the open market.

Every week, CIRA releases this digital gold to the world, and you can mine it every Wednesday between 2:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. (Eastern Time) to bring new life to a once cherished idea.
