Helping support the cyber warriors of the future

CIRA is proud to support the next generation of cyber warriors through CyberTitan, a program created by the ICTC to help promote and train students pursuing careers in cybersecurity.

While it may seem like a cliché, building a better online Canada is the reason many of us, myself included, enjoy coming in to work every day. The internet is so important to our daily lives that keeping it open, fast, accessible and safe is critical to Canada’s future.

Of course, the internet can’t be accessible or safe if it is corrupted by hackers, malware and cyber attacks, which is why CIRA is proud to support the development of the next generation of cyber warriors through CyberTitan.

CyberTitan is a program created by the Information and Communications Technology Council (ICTC) in affiliation with the US Air Force Association’s CyberPatriot Program, which helps promote and train students pursuing careers in cybersecurity.

CyberTitan is a Canada-wide competition where 92 schools and more than 500 students compete online to earn one of 10 spots in the CyberTitan National Finals, which are being held next week in Fredericton, New Brunswick.

I am thrilled that ICTC and CyberTitan asked me to serve on the National Cyber Security Leadership Council on Youth and Education to help promote cybersecurity skills, training and mentorship for youth across Canada.

As the managers of the .CA domain name in Canada, we are committed to ensuring that the internet continues to grow and provide opportunities for Canadians. It is impossible to see a future for Canada’s internet that doesn’t involve a strong, national focus on cybersecurity. We see threats increasing every day through our D-Zone DNS Firewall service that reminds us that cybersecurity is no longer something we can take for granted, which is why focusing on education, training and development is so important.

I look forward to seeing how our young Canadian cybersecurity experts perform at the CyberTitan National Finals and it makes me tremendously proud to be helping to support such a valuable program that will help ensure the security of Canada’s internet for years to come.
