CIRA board election: the importance of endorsing member nominees

By Julie Lépine
Manager, Membership Relations

On August 28 the list of CIRA members who have indicated their interest in joining the board will be published. Starting on the same date, members will have the opportunity to decide which nominees will appear on the final election ballot by endorsing them.

To our CIRA members: being an active participant in CIRA’s governance is where you’ll have the most impact towards our mission and is one of the ultimate ways to activate your role as a member.

Why endorse member nominees?

This is your opportunity to advance the most qualified nominee to the final ballot. To become a final candidate on the members’ slate in the board election, member nominees must receive at least 20 endorsements from members. Only CIRA members can endorse a member nominee during the endorsement period.

How to prepare to endorse member nominees?

It’s important to have candidates who are qualified and have the skills and experience to achieve a well-functioning and balanced board. Before you endorse a member nominee, read their candidate information and the list of desired skills and experience needed on the board. These resources can help you make an informed decision when casting your endorsement.

How to endorse a member nominee?

The endorsement period starts August 28 and ends September 11, 2024 at 2 p.m. ET. Endorsing a member nominee is easy and only takes a few minutes. Members will endorse one nominee.

CIRA will send an email to each eligible member on August 28, 2024 at approximately 2 p.m. ET with a link to the new voting platform. Members will access the ballot by logging in with the CIRA membership username and password.

If you do not receive this email and have verified that you are a member eligible to vote, contact a CIRA representative at [email protected] or 1 (877) 860-1411.

Voter eligibility

To be eligible to vote in the 2024 board election, you have to be a CIRA member at least 21 days prior to the start of voting (specifically, by end of day September 4, 2024) and continue to be a member at the time you cast your ballot. This rule is required by the Canada Not-for-Profit Corporations Act and CIRA’s By-law. To ensure that your status as a member remains active throughout the election process, make sure that the .CA domain(s) associated with your membership are not expiring. If they are, be sure to renew!
