THE PROJECT
The de Souza Institute is a national education and research program in cancer care that works with six cancer care agencies across Canada to offer therapist-led online support groups (OSG) with a platform called Cancer Chat Canada. Their project involved developing, standardizing and testing an OSG program, Re-storing Sensual and Sexual Self, focused on improving sexual functioning and quality of life for women with breast, ovarian or other forms of gynecological cancer.
COMMUNITY IMPACT
60 cancer survivors who experienced challenges with their sexual health, coping, body image and psychosocial functioning participated in nine online support groups, greatly improving their ease of access to psychosocial services, especially for those living with disease-related disabilities and/or in rural areas.
