THE PROJECT
Community-Based Environmental Monitoring Network (CBEMN), part of Saint Mary’s University, works to increase and coordinate community capacity for water quality monitoring. CBEMN created an Atlantic version of Mackenzie DataStream, an open access platform for sharing water data collected by CBEMN’s network of 40+ partners across Atlantic Canada.
COMMUNITY IMPACT
Through a CIRA-funded series of workshops, individual users and community-based organizations received training on how to use the platform and data management protocols so that their data could be easily shared and made accessible. By providing online tools and training for community groups to upload and share quality data in a systematic way, water quality data from across Atlantic Canada can better inform policy makers and decision-making.
