THE PROJECT

In a community such as Renfrew, where 39.5% of children are living below the poverty line and many people lack access to computers or the internet, the Renfrew Public Library (RPL) is a key resource for families and individuals to help bridge the digital divide. With a CIRA grant, the RPL purchased Chromebooks and established hotspots available to the public.

COMMUNITY IMPACT

The new equipment helped ensure people can participate fully in our digital society when and how they need, despite socioeconomic barriers. A lending program was established aimed at low-income and student populations with incredible uptake from the community, especially with the onset of the pandemic, demonstrating the importance of connectivity in an increasingly online world.
