THE PROJECT

Oceanside Community Makerspace Society, a studio space that fosters creativity through sharing and developing expertise in a wide range of practical skills, aimed to provide internet access both inside the classroom and after school hours to K-12 students in the Vancouver Island region to create a platform of creative makers and learners to share, collaborate and connect online.

COMMUNITY IMPACT

With the onset of the pandemic, the focus of the project shifted to connecting learners via Zoom instead of in person, acquiring laptops and camera equipment that were loaned out to groups in the community who were struggling to gain online access. Despite the challenges of the pandemic, a competitive Lego Robotics team made it to the finals at an event in Victoria and won the Robot Performance Award.
