THE PROJECT

Regent Park FOCUS Media Arts Centre is a not-for-profit organization with the goal of countering negative media stereotypes of low-income communities and empowering individuals living in the Regent Park area and surrounding communities. This project successfully engaged low-income racialized youth, half of whom were girls, in coding and digital literacy programming.

COMMUNITY IMPACT

With the onset of the pandemic the program shifted online, providing over 200 hours of coding workshops through an anti-oppression lens. Each young person who participated was able to apply the skills learned to create their own social justice-based digital games, opening up a new world of digital creativity.
