THE PROJECT
The Redwood provides a safe haven for women and their children fleeing abuse in Toronto. Their project, iDetermine, was successfully launched as a digital service hub, helping vulnerable women in unsafe relationships access resources and online services such as 24/7 counselling via live chat.
COMMUNITY IMPACT
With the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, the necessity for this hub was accelerated as considerable stress, financial concerns and impacts on childcare and social isolation meant many women experienced greater difficulty receiving support. In the first four months following the launch, over 1,500 people visited the hub and had over 450 counselling chats, receiving key support as well as preventative and interventional measures to address violence against women and children.
