Cheese holds a special place in many Canadians’ hearts. I will never forget the moment that I realized how much I appreciated Canadian cheese.

I was living in Mexico and had a craving for homemade poutine. While finding the French fries and making the gravy wasn’t difficult, I quickly learned that Oaxaca cheese is no substitute for Canadian cheese curds.

In celebration of #CheeseLoversDay, here are ten cheesy Canadian websites.

cheese.ca (forwards to baldersoncheese.ca)

Owners of this premium domain name, the Balderson Corners Cheese Factory was established in the 1880’s in Lanark County near Perth, Ontario. Their specialty is cheddar. They even have a spreadable cheddar product. Yum!

cheesecrafters.ca

The Golden Ears Cheesecrafters AKA Emma and Jenna are two young sisters from BC that focus on letting customers feel a personal connection with their products.

bleuetpersille.ca

Bleu & Persillé, fromagerie de quartier, has the ambition to become the best cheese factory in Montreal.

gunnshillcheese.ca

Gunn’s Hill produces artisan cheese in Oxford County, Ontario, made with the influence of Swiss techniques and recipes. They make squeaky cheese curds every week.

takeawaygourmet.ca

Takeaway Gourmet is a Regina-based business that sells meals, products and treats. They carry “the best cheese in Saskatchewan”.

jacobsons.ca

Jacobsons has Canada-wide shipping on most of their specialty food offerings. They also offer a Cheese of the Month club. With the physical store housed in a small neighbourhood in Ottawa, the company relies on its website to make the storefront easy to find for locals and to connect out-of-Ottawa customers with the brand.

ratinaud.ca

Ratinaud, located in Halifax, specializes in French cuisine and charcuterie and is proud to use as many ingredients from Nova Scotia as possible.

thecheesebar.ca

We’ve featured a lot of cheese producers so far, which is great, but here’s a unique business idea: The Cheese Bar’s goal is to introduce 100% Canadian made cheese to locals and visitors to Essex County in Ontario.

cheesefarm.ca

Founded by Jacob and Margaret Schep, who both came from cheesemaking families in the Netherlands, Thunder Oak Cheese Farm is the first farm in Ontario to produce Gouda cheese. You can use their order form to ship products within Canada – varieties of their Gouda include jalapeno, dill, red pepper and more.

poutine.ca

Not really sure what they’re going for here, but yes, that is, indeed, poutine.
